CASTINE, Maine – The University of New England men's soccer team kicked off the 2026 season with a road win over Maine Maritime on Tuesday evening, thanks in part to a pair of goals from
Corbin Schreindorfer.
The senior scored each of UNE's first two goals, beginning with the game's opening tally in the 20th minute, and tacking on another moments later in the 26th minute. The Nor'easters (1-0) held a 3-0 advantage before the Mariners (0-1) were on the board in the 89th minute to avoid the shutout.
First-year goalkeeper
Landon Dominski debuted for UNE, facing only two shots on goal. Reagan Moynihan recorded six saves for Maine Maritime, which was outdone 11-8 in total shots and 9-2 in shots on goal.
The Nor'easters capitalized on a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks, cashing in on two of their chances. Both of Schreindorfer's goals were headers off of corners served up by
Ethan Berry. UNE's third goal – scored by
Haukur Karlsson in the 81st minute – was set up by a well-placed feed from
Ronan Donaghey.
"I'm very happy with the result, and glad that some of what we've practiced also worked in a game," head coach Peter Ostergaard commented. "We have a long road ahead of us, and a tough week coming up, but we hope to continue this. It was nice to get two goals from Corbin and I'm happy that Haukur opened his scoring account too."
The Nor'easters are unbeaten against the Mariners through the last three meetings of the programs, coming off a 0-0 tie that opened the 2025 season.
UNE is on the road once again on Friday, Sept. 4, visiting Rivier at 5 p.m. before turning its attention to Sunday's home opener against Southern Maine.
