BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England women's lacrosse team trailed 11-4 in the third quarter of Saturday's pivotal Conference of New England matchup, but a resurgent second-half effort saw the Nor'easters the game, 13-13 – all before Jamie Anthony netted the game-winning goal for Roger Williams University with 38 seconds left to chalk up a key victory for the Hawks on Blue Bolt Field.

RWU (8-7, 7-2) rattled off seven straight to end the first half, taking a 10-3 lead into the break, and a 9-2 run from UNE (7-7, 5-4) later in the second half provided the hosts with a chance in the final minutes. Sydney Balotin buried the game-tying goal with exactly three minutes remaining, but UNE came up empty on what proved to be its last chance of the afternoon, giving way to Anthony's game-winner. Miranda Hayes secured an important draw control – her 12th of the game – following Anthony's tally to allow the Hawks to drain crucial seconds off the clock and salt away the victory.

In addition to her double-digit draw controls, Hayes racked up four assists and scored two goals of her own to tie teammate Allie Shamberger for the game high with six points. Shamberger was key in RWU's explosive start, netting all four of her goals by the 8:30 mark of the second quarter.

Balotin scored four goals for the Nor'easters, and collected a team-best seven draw controls. Molly Henderson led the way with five points via four goals and an assist. Chloe Ryan and Emma Collingwood both found the back of the net twice, and Vail Carruthers chipped in with a goal and an assist.

Henderson's first goal of the afternoon answered Shamberger's third, tying the game at 3-3 late in the opening quarter before the Hawks dominated the second, 7-0, to grab their commanding halftime lead. In a second half that featured nine cards, back-to-back late third-quarter goals from Carruthers and Collingwood swung momentum, then Henderson scored the open the fourth, cutting the Hawks' lead to 12-10.

Molly Schmitz provided RWU's response at 9:57 of the fourth, but UNE only needed 21 seconds for Balotin to answer and return the deficit to two goals. Henderson made it a one goal game with 5:41 left, then Balotin leveled it for the game's first tie since it was 3-3.

A UNE victory would have marked the Nor'easters' first over RWU since the 2012 season.

UNE will visit Gordon, which will be seeking its first win, for the regular-season finale on Wednesday, April 22 at 4 p.m.
