MILTON, Mass. –
Molly Henderson erupted for eight goals – just one shy of matching the program's single-game record – to power the University of New England women's lacrosse team in a convincing 21-10 Conference of New England road victory over Curry College on Tuesday night at Walter M. Katz Field.
Henderson's eight goals were the most by any UNE player since Hannah Tavella, the program's leader in career points, dropped the same number on Thomas College during the 2014 season. Danielle Cate's nine from 2010 stands alone as the single-game mark to beat. Henderson's contributions on Tuesday did not stop in the goals column; the junior also registered three assists. Her 11 points are the most by a Nor'easter since the 2017 season – Brooke Kelleher's program-best 14 against Nichols.
Henderson's final goal, which came at 5:01 of the fourth quarter, marked her 100th career point. She is the 24th player in program history to reach that milestone.
Vail Carruthers put up six goals to bolster the UNE attack, easily shattering her career high, in addition to her game-best six draw controls.
Ella Cloutier distributed the ball with a game-high four assists.
Curry (4-10, 1-7), which trailed 5-0 before getting on the board, was led by Ella Palanza's five goals.
The Colonels faced a 7-1 deficit by the end of the first quarter and looked to make a push late in the second quarter, cutting UNE's lead to 11-6. The Nor'easters (7-6, 5-3) then rattled seven straight between the last three minutes of the opening half and the early part of the third quarter to run away with a commanding 18-6 advantage.
Outside of Henderson and Carruthers, UNE's scoring was widespread with eight different players finding the back of the net.
Cassadi Manchuk and
Kylie McKee were among that company, both scoring their first career goals.
The Nor'easters will host Roger Williams for their final home date of the regular season on Saturday, April 18 at 3:15 p.m.
