Huskies surge in 2nd half to take 9-5 win over UNE

GORHAM, Maine -- Rookie goalkeeper Olivia Ferraro racked up 20 saves, but the University of New England fell to host University of Southern Maine, 9-5, in non-conference women's lacrosse action Thursday afternoon (Mar. 5) at Hannaford Field.

UNE (1-2) led 4-3 at halftime before the Huskies (2-0) reeled off six consecutive goals in a 20-minute window spanning the third and fourth quarters. 

Mariam DeLisle, Cierra Hill and Eliza Pattershall scored two goals apiece for Southern Maine. DeLisle and Pattershall contributed four markers during the hosts' decisive outburst. Pattershall added five ground balls and five caused turnovers, while Katelyn D'Appolonia finished with six ground balls, five caused turnovers and four draw controls.

For the Nor'easters, Chloe Ryan, Vail Carruthers, Sydney Balotin, Ainsley Kearney and Ella Cloutier each scored once. Cloutier finished with three ground balls, two caused turnovers and a pair of draw controls. Balotin paced the Nor'easters in the draw control column with three.

Southern Maine had the better part of the stat sheet, leading in ground balls (27-16), while going 11 for 14 on clear attempts (11-29 for UNE) and committing just 16 turnovers compared to UNE's 33.

The Nor'easters will look to halt a two-game slide when they travel to Plymouth State University for a noon start on Saturday.
