Endicott fends off UNE for 16-9 CNE win

Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Four straight second-half goals by Endicott College helped the Gulls pull away for a 16-9 Conference of New England victory over the University of New England men's lacrosse team, which turned in a gritty effort against the reigning CNE champion on Tuesday night at Blue Bolt Field.

UNE was within four goals, 11-7, midway through the fourth quarter before the Gulls netted five of the game's last seven tallies. Endicott, which features one of nation's top 10 scoring offenses, was held in check early, striking just twice in the first quarter, but found its footing in the second frame for a 9-6 halftime lead.

Nick Graap was a difference maker for the Gulls, finishing with a game-high five goals, plus an assist. Tommy Tyksinski distributed the ball to the tune of four assists, along with three goals of his own, to accumulate a game-high seven points.

Shea Fogarty led UNE with three goals, followed by two each from Kyle Dunn, Stephen Fogarty and Preston Briggs.

In a game that included five penalties, the Nor'easters were able to keep the Gulls off the board during their two man-up chances, both of which came in the first half. UNE also failed to cash in a pair of opportunities.

Despite being on the wrong side, statistically, of ground balls, faceoffs and shots, UNE's defensive pressure culminated in 23 Endicott turnovers, helping the Nor'easters hang around, while they committed just 14.

UNE will visit Johnson & Wales on Saturday, April 4 for a 12 p.m. start.
