GORHAM, Maine -- The University of New England men's tennis team put its first victory on the board on Tuesday (Mar. 24), topping the University of Southern Maine by a 4-0 margin inside the Costello Sports Complex.
With the match moved indoors on the USM campus, onto three courts, the scoring was amended to play only until there was a team winner.
The Nor'easters (1-2) secured the doubles point with wins by
Drake Turcotte and
Andrew Young at #1 doubles (6-2), and
Liam Miller and
Franco Leehive at #2 doubles (6-2), just as the Huskies were on the verge of taking #3 doubles (5-4).
As the action turned to the individual matches, Miller cruised to a triumph at #2 singles (6-2, 6-2), Turcotte ran away late at #1 singles (6-4, 6-1), and Leehive similarly separated from a tight contest at #3 singles (7-5, 6-1) to finish things off for the visitors.
UNE heads down to Endicott College for a Conference of New England (CNE) outing tomorrow.Â
