CLERMONT, Fla. -- The University of New England received a couple of timely hits and seven strong innings in the circle from
Mo Kinsella to edge Worcester State University by a 2-1 margin in softball action on Thursday (Mar. 19) at The Spring Games.
For the first time since 2018, the Nor'easers (4-4) conclude their Spring Break in Florida with at least a .500 record. UNE now turns its focus to the Conference of New England (CNE)-opening doubleheader on Sunday at Western New England University.
A one-out double by
Emma Michaud went for not in the top of the 1st inning, and then a Morgan Keefe double, followed by a single from Ella Snyder, put the Lancers (2-6) in front.
With two down and a runner on first in the 3rd, the Nor'easters grabbed the advantage on the scoreboard with consecutive doubles. First,
Zofia Twarog over the head of the left fielder, and, aided by an error,
Hannah Irons came around to score. Next, it was
Tess Bolduc slicing a hard grounder around the second baseman, and sending Twarog around to touch with the go-ahead run.
Twarog has reached base six games in-a-row, and Bolduc leads the squad with four extra-base hits.
Worcester State could not convert with a pair of early runners aboard in the 3rd and 4th frames, and both sides met a similar fate in the 5th. For the match, the Lancers left 10 on the bases, while UNE stranded six.
Kinsella navigated around one-out walks in the 6th and 7th to secure the win. The junior scattered seven hits and five walks, but only yielded the one run.
Michaud finished with two hits to cap the southern swing batting a blazing .636, including five multi-hit outings. She logged UNE's longest hitting streaks in each of the past two seasons, with eight games in 2024 and nine in 2025.
Keefe had a team-high two hits for WSU, while Peyton Maloney took the tough loss in the circle, despite striking out eight.
