FALL RIVER, Mass. - Leading 1-0 after one period of play, No. 7 University of New England exploded for four goals in the middle frame to cruise to a 7-0 shutout of Roger Williams University in a Conference of New England men's ice hockey contest played Friday evening (Feb. 6) at Driscoll Arena.

Winners of six contests in a row, the Nor'easters improved to 16-5-0 overall and sit atop the conference standings with 39 points (13-3-0 CNE).

Nathan Chickering opened the scoring as the Nor'easters converted their first power-play opportunity. The senior captain swept home a rebound of his own initial shot that was saves his team-best 11th goal at 14:33 of the first period, with Drew Olivieri and Dominic Murphy collecting assists.

UNE out-shot the hosts by a 17-2 margin over the initial 20-minute period.

The Nor'easters put the game way in the second period, scoring four times to bury the Hawks. Seth Murch, Olivieri, Kevin O'Keefe and Cam Bergeman each tallied goals in the period to help UNE decide the contest. The four scoring tallies came within a five-minute span to help freeze the Hawks.

Jayden Price tacked on a short-handed goal and power-play goal in the third period to complete the offensive onslaught for the Nor'easters, who finished the contest with a 40-12 advantage in shots on goal.

Chickering, Price, Murphy and Fernand Olivier-Perron each contributed a pair of assists in the win. Ryan Hadland won 10 of 15 draws at the face-off dot for UNE. Senior goaltender Harrison Chesney made 12 saves to register his third shutout in a Nor'easter uniform.

The penalty kill unit continued to shine for UNE, denying all four of the Hawks' opportunities with an extra skater to improve its nation's top percentage to 98.7 percent (76 of 77).

Jacob Jaslow was busy for Roger Williams (6-13-1, 4-10-1), racking up a total of 33 stops.

The same two squads return to action tomorrow (Feb. 7) with a 4 p.m. puck drop at the Harold Alfond Forum in Biddeford.
