DUDLEY, Mass. -- The University of New England women's tennis squad authored a resounding 6-1 win over Nichols College to wrap the 2026 Conference of New England (CNE) portion of the schedule on Saturday (Oct. 24) at the Robinson Courts.
Winners of seven in the last eight, the Nor'easters (11-4) improve to 6-4 in league play and secure the No.5 seed in the upcoming CNE Women's Tennis Championship, which begins on Tuesday. UNE was 5-5 and placed sixth in the standings during its inaugural campaign last year.
Between the two seasons, the result that provided the difference and improvement in the finish was Saturday's victory, as the Bison (3-9-1, 3-7 CNE) got the better of the Nor'easters by a 6-1 margin in 2025. Nichols went on its second straight CNE tournament title.
"The team performed very well today," noted UNE head coach Adam Reeb. "It's a good feeling to be showing some of our best tennis at the end of the regular season, and we're excited to compete in the conference tournament next week."
The hosts forfeited #3 doubles at the top, setting up
Andie Lamontagne and
Sofia Salcedo Ladaga to complete the doubles point on the #2 line (6-0).
Madeline Frank and
Nora Hill were level at 2-all in the #1 match, before rattling off the next four games to sweep the session.
Salcedo Ladaga eased through the #4 singles contest (6-0, 6-0), as did
Olivia Crooker at #6 (6-0, 6-0). Lamontagne put the deciding point on the board with a 6-3, 6-0 win at #3 singles.
Pamela Gonzalez Vallardi, with only one individual setback on the season, registered the lone point for the Bison, and then Hill at #2 (6-2, 6-0) and
Alyssa Fritschka at #5 singles (6-2, 6-4) delivered the finishing touches for the Nor'easters.
"Maddie and Nora played some of their best doubles of the year and got a great win. The effort was there from everyone in singles, as well. Nora was outstanding and Andie had a really good afternoon. I'm also really proud of Olivia for jumping into the #6 singles spot and securing that point for us," Reeb added.
In the first round of the postseason championship, UNE will be headed for No.4 Colby-Sawyer College. The Chargers took a 6-1 decision from Biddeford back in mid-September.
