#16 Gulls pull away to CNE win over UNE

Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Sabrina Brunet tallied a pair of go-ahead goals and the second one stuck, as No.16 Endicott College picked up a 6-2 Conference of New England (CNE) field hockey result against the University of New England at Blue Bolt Field on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 10).

The nationally-ranked Gulls improve to 10-3 overall and remain unbeaten in league play (5-0). The decision knocks the Nor'easters (6-6) back to 3-2 in conference matches.

It was a wild and intense opening 15 minutes, with more combined goals (4) in a UNE contest than any other quarter this season. The Nor'easters had Endicott pinned, with the first four penalty corners, and took the early lead (8th minute) when Ella Reeves drove one past EC goalie Faith Minickene. Isabel Culver and Kate Kelso registered assists [Watch].

The visitors got level with a favorable in the 11th minute, as a clearing kick by UNE keeper Riley Curtin banked off of Elena Govoni and into the cage. Brunet scored on a backhand to flip the Gulls in front in the 13th minute, but a nice individual effort and sweeping shot by UNE's Gianna Korisianos slotted just inside the right post with 17 ticks remaining to tie things up [Watch].

Brunet had the only goal in the 2nd period (23rd minute), as Endicott held the hosts without a shot (7-0) or corner (4-0).

Riley Perkins from Abby Antonelli (31st), Govoni (46th), and Allison Fijux from Brunet (49th) padded the cushion for the Gulls. Minickene made her only stop in the 4th to backstop the win.

Curtin piled up 12 saves for the Nor'easters, who will visit No.22 Bates College on Tuesday.
