Hawks fly by Nor'easters in second half for 3-0 win

BRISTOL, R.I. -- Coming off a scoreless first half, the Roger Williams University men's soccer team notched three goals to pull away from the University of New England for a 3-0 shutout in a Conference of New England (CNE) game played Saturday afternoon (Sept. 27) at Bayside Field.

The Hawks, who received votes in the most recent United Soccer Coaches national poll, are unbeaten on the season. Roger Williams boasts a 6-0-3 overall record and is 2-0-1 in conference play.

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the hosts came charging out of intermission. Tyler Jastrab converted a penalty 1:14 into the frame to give RWU all the scoring it would need for victory.

The lead doubled in the 70th minute when Louis Hawkins converted a feed from Will Schiffer. Roger Williams tacked on one more four minutes later on a goal by Patrick Marino.

The stat sheet was slanted in favor of the home team, with the Hawks leading in shots (25-5) and corner kicks (12-2).

Winning goalkeeper Eliot Panaccione needed just one save to record a clean sheet. His counterpart, Sean MacDonald, made eight stops.

UNE (0-5-3, 0-2-1) will look to get into the win column Tuesday (Sept. 30) when Plymouth State University comes to Biddeford for a 5 p.m. kickoff at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
