BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Goals by Gianna Korisianos and Makena Valentine just 2:08 apart in the 3rd period flipped the advantage as the University of New England field hockey team defeated Husson University, 2-1, at Blue Bolt Field on Wednesday evening (Sep. 17).

The Nor'easters (3-4) had trailed since the opening minute of play, when Husson's Faith Tillotson redirected a ball sent towards cage by Averi Baker. It was the only shot on goal for the visitors all night.

Apart from one off-target shot, the 2nd frame had no offensive action either way, but UNE ramped things up following halftime to get on the correct side of the scoreboard. Riley Zielinski stretched Eagles goalie Ella Duchette to make a lunging kick save in the 37th minute, but the rebound went right to Korisianos, who settled it and slotted the second touch inside the left post [Watch].

A blocked try on the opposite end by Korisianos cleared the defensive zone of any other pressure, and the hosts quickly transitioned to the front half, where Ava Wolverton forced a whistle for a penalty stroke in the crease. Valentine stepped up to the dot and found space in the left corner for the go-ahead tally [Watch].

A defensive save by Leah Pushard in the 50th minute kept the Nor'easters from padding the cushion, but Husson could hardly cross the midfield line over the final 20 minutes to attempt to make up the difference on the board.

Each of Valentine's three goals this year have gone for game-winners. With a second half of tidy defending in front of her, Greta Jennison picked up the goalkeeping decision for UNE, which finished on top of a 15-3 margin in total shots and 7-0 in corners.

Duchette made four stops for the Eagles.

The Nor'easters are back in Conference of New England (CNE) play on Saturday (1 p.m.) when Roger Williams University comes into town.
