BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Two goals in a span of 1:36 during the latter portion of the 2nd period put the University of New England women's ice hockey team in the driver's seat, as the Nor'easters finished off a 3-1 non-conference win against first-year program Keene State College on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 8) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Nor'easters (10-10-1) trailed for nearly 10 minutes before pulling level with 4:03 left in the middle period. Jamie DuPont punched home the equalizer on the left doorstep, after Hannah Humes had a shot from the point saved by KSC goalie Ai Chung [Watch]. Danielle McCarthy also collected an assist on the play. Then, it was Julia Weiner with the go-ahead tally, following a centering feed from Grace Flannery -- Weiner half-fanned on an initial backhand attempt, but connected squarely as the puck fell to her forehand, banking her first collegiate goal high off the right post [Watch].

After a 25-minute injury delay in the 3rd, during which the teams briefly left the ice, play resumed for the final 15 minutes of action. UNE netminder Kaleigh Laurendeau, who made five stops in the initial stages of the frame, only needed to make four the rest of the way to backstop the victory. Laurendeau totaled 23 saves to improve to 6-1-1.

Hannah Humes added an insurance goal for the hosts with just under six minutes to play, with an assist going to Averi Curran. The two points for Humes increases her squad-best season total to 13.

The Owls (13-11-0) were the first on the board, 6:14 into the 2nd, as Ava Iantosca capped a give-and-go with Brianna Finke.

Chung put up 27 saves for the visitors.

The Nor'easters get back to their Conference of New England (CNE) slate on Friday (7 p.m.) when Johnson & Wales University visits the Forum.
