BRISTOL, R.I. – Roger Williams took over midway through the first half and cruised to a 115-65 Conference of New England victory over the University of New England men's basketball team in the Nor'easters' season finale on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Recreation Center.
The postseason-bound Hawks have earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming CNE Tournament, finishing the regular season with a 17-8 record, along with a 12-6 conference mark.
The Nor'easters' season comes to an end with a record of 7-18 (5-13 CNE).
Five scored in double figures for the Hawks, who bombarded UNE with 24 made 3-pointers (24-for-48). Ryan Higgins, Roger Williams' leading scorer with 22 points, was 6-for-10 from deep. The Hawks shot better than 50 percent from long range (12-for-23) during the first half as they began to build their commanding lead. The Nor'easters were led by
Jack Pyzynski's 20 points.
UNE held an early 12-11 lead before RWU began to pull away, eventually rattling off a 20-4 run to grab a 43-20 lead in the final three minutes of the first half. After leading 52-26 at halftime and scoring the first eight points of the second half, the Hawks maintained a lead of at least 30 for the remainder of the game.
