BIDDEFORD, Maine – After trailing at halftime, the University of New England dominated the second half of Sunday afternoon's men's basketball contest on Coach Beaudry's Court, allowing the Nor'easters to close out a 91-80 victory over the University of Maine-Augusta.

Jayden Thornton scored 17 of his game-high 22 points in the second half as the Nor'easters (4-4) outscored the Moose (6-7), 54-39, over the final 20 minutes to comfortably erase a 41-37 halftime deficit. UNE shot better than 50 percent (16-for-29) from the floor in the second half, and was 6-for-10 from deep.

Thornton was just one of five Nor'easters in double figures, joined by Kha Cao Ra James (19), Adam Lux (18), Jaelen Jackson (16) and Adrian Torres (11). Jackson added a game-high seven assists, and James was close to a double-double, having led UNE with eight rebounds. Rocco Chang paced UMaine Augusta with 19 points, while Khalif Bettis recorded a double-double with 12 points and a game-best 13 boards, helping the Moose claim a 41-26 edge in the rebounding column.

The Nor'easters' defensive pressure proved problematic for the Moose, who committed 26 turnovers while UNE racked up a season-best 17 steals.

The two teams combined for 58 attempts at the free throw line, where the Moose had a slight edge percentage-wise, going 16-for-26. The Nor'easters garnered more opportunities and hit 21 of their 32 attempts.

Thornton's scoring came in an efficient manner, with the senior going 5-for-6 from the floor, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, and 9-for-10 at the charity stripe. Thornton, along with Lux (2-for-3) were instrumental in UNE shooting an even 50 percent from three (8-for-16).

After trailing through the entire first half, the Nor'easters grabbed their first lead after scoring the first five points of the second half. UNE soon after used a 16-2 run to up its lead to 18 (68-50) with just under 11 minutes remaining. A double-digit advantage was maintained down the stretch while the Nor'easters racked up 16 points from the free throw line during the second half alone.

The Nor'easters are back home on Wednesday, Dec. 3 for the Conference of New England opener, squaring off with Gordon at 7:30 p.m.
