#5 Nor'easters hang seven on RWU in CNE win

Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The No.5 University of New England men's ice hockey team received four goals from its top line of forwards on the way to a 7-1 Conference of New England (CNE) victory over Roger Williams University at the Harold Alfond Forum on Friday night (Nov. 14).

It marks the first triumph for the Nor'easters (4-0, 3-0 CNE) while ranked inside the top five of the national USCHO.com poll, which occurred for the sixth time in program history earlier in the week. The Hawks, in their first season as a varsity squad, slip to 1-3 overall (0-3 CNE).

UNE now has 29 goals through the first four contests, tying the school record (from 2019-20) for the most scores during any four-game stretch.

Cam Bergeman factored in both of the 1st-period markers for the hosts, first getting the Nor'easters on the board 3:12 into the match when an outlet pass from Dominic Murphy sent Bergeman in alone for a far-post wrist shot. Later in the frame, Bergeman intercepted a pass behind the cage and slid it out front to Drew Olivieri for the tap-in.

That 2-0 spread held until nearly midway through the 2nd, before the teams combined for five scores in less than eight minutes. During 4-on-4 action, Ryan Hadland padded the lead on a rebound chance, but Shane Adler countered for RWU with a wrister through a screen and under the crossbar. Olivieri netted another, Jayden Price deposited a juicy rebound, and Jacob Pellerin struck the near-side top corner to push the UNE cushion to 6-1.

Murphy got one of his own, unassisted, in the 3rd to round out the scoring and join Olivieri at three points on the evening. In addition to Bergman, Pellerin, David Wilcox, and Juraj Elias had two points apiece.

Harrison Chesney logged 12 saves over 56 minutes of action, prior to the Nor'easter debut of Carson Barnes, who made two stops over the final few minutes. Niko Charles and Cam Prodin recorded 24 and 11 saves, respectively, for the Hawks.

UNE heads to face Western New England University on Saturday, one week removed from an 11-0 result between the teams in Biddeford.
