BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England recorded a 4-0 victory over Thomas College in women's tennis action on Tuesday (Oct. 7) at Blue Cyclone Complex.

Due to an unforeseen issue with conditions on some of the courts, the match schedule was condensed to a few courts and the scoring was amended to play only until there was a team winner.

The Nor'easters (9-2) cruised in the two doubles matches that were contested, as both the #1 duo of Madeline Frank and Nora Hill and the #2 pair of Andie Lamontagne and Alyssa Fritschka won by 6-2 margins. Frank and Hill now hold an 8-3 record together.

Frank then rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 result at #1 singles to make it 2-0 in favor of the hosts. Meanwhile, Hill was battling Keira Gilman of Thomas at #2 singles, who claimed six of the last seven games to take the opening set (6-3). Hill raced out to a 4-0 lead in the second and soon leveled the match at a set apiece (6-2), before rallying from down 3-6 and 6-8 in a super tiebreaker to secure the point for UNE (10-8).

Lamontagne entered the court at #3 singles and took the final three games of the first set to win 7-5. She was ahead 2-1 in the second when her opponent retired, which was the point the Nor'easters needed to seal the overall match.

At the moment the hosts clinched, two other singles matches were halted late in the respective first sets. UNE's Sydney Pelletier had rattled off five consecutive games to lead comfortably at #5 singles, while Lily Daigle was in a similar position at #4 for the Terriers (8-5).

The Nor'easters are slated to visit Curry College for a Conference of New England tilt on Wednesday.
