Statistics

KEENE, N.H. -- The University of New England tied things up in the waning seconds of the 3rd quarter and then Kate Kelso provided the go-ahead goal in the 47th minute as the Nor'easters defeated Keene State College by a 3-2 margin in a field hockey matchup at the Owl Athletic Complex on Tuesday (Oct. 7).

Winners of four straight outings, the Nor'easters (7-5) will now prepare for a key Conference of New England battle against visiting Western New England University on Saturday (1 p.m.).

While the visitors had an edge less than two minutes into the contest on a score by Riley Zielinski, a pair of 2nd-period goals from Grace Seabury and Grace Bazin had the Owls (9-4) in front at the intermission.

After Greta Jennison denied Bazin on a penalty stroke attempt in the middle of the 3rd, a late corner gave UNE an opportunity to draw even. Abby Stevens inserted it to Makena Valentine, who drilled it into the left side of the cage for the equalizer -- her team-leading seventh marker of the year.

The Nor'easters had a good push to open the 4th, and a steal by Gianna Korisianos soon found its way to Kelso for the lead. Four days earlier, Kelso netted her first two goals of the season, while Korisianos notched her first two assists.

Keene State had a burst of chances in the middle of the frame, but Jennison was there to turn aside the three shots on target. Jennison wound up with six saves to backstop her fourth positive decision on the campaign.

Clara Gorman also recorded six stops for the hosts.

The last four meetings between the squads have been decided by one goal (three UNE wins).
