BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Nichols College clinched the second seed in the upcoming Conference of New England Tournament with a 6-1 victory over the University of New England in a women's tennis match played Saturday afternoon (Oct. 25) at Blue Cyclone Complex.
By virtue of being seeded No. 2, Nichols (12-1, 9-1 CNE) earns a first-round bye when opening-round play gets underway Tuesday (Oct. 28). Nichols and Colby-Sawyer College own identical 9-1 regular-season conference ledgers, but CSC claimed the tiebreaker by virtue of a 5-2 result over the Bison on Oct. 4. In its inaugural season as a varsity program, UNE (11-5, 5-5) qualified for postseason play and will be seeded No. 6.Â
The Bison came away with the doubles point thanks to 6-0 decisions at the top two slots.

Sydney Pelletier teamed up for a thrilling 7-6 win at third doubles, earning a 9-7 triumph in the tiebreaker.
Nichols was dominant in singles competition, surrendering just six games total over the five singles matches. The Bison defaulted at No. 6 singles.
Pelletier, who was honored prior to the match as one of UNE's two seniors, won a total of four games at No. 5 singles.Â
The Nor'easters will face third-seeded Gordon College in the opening round, traveling to Wenham, Mass. for a 3 p.m. start Tuesday.
