BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Endicott College picked up a 7-0 Conference of New England (CNE) women's tennis decision versus the University of New England at Blue Cyclone Complex on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 21).
The Gulls (6-5, 5-3 CNE) jump the Nor'easters (11-4, 5-4) in the standings, as the regular season is lined up to conclude this weekend and the opening round of the postseason tournament set to begin next week.
The doubles action had a couple of tight matches early on, with the visitors up one game (3-2) in the #1 and #3 matches. Endicott found some momentum down the stretch, though, to claim the first point for the team. The UNE pairing ofÂ
Sydney Pelletier and
Zoe Lambke picked off three games at #3 doubles.
Madeline Frank raced to a 6-3 opening set at #1 singles, but aside from a narrow score line at #6 with Lambke (4-6), the Gulls had the edge. After the overall contest had been determined, Frank's battle went to a third set super-tiebreaker, where EC's Emily Leclerc was able to complete the shutout (3-6, 6-2, 1-0 [10-5]).
The Nor'easters finish the regular season of their inaugural year on Saturday (1 p.m.) during Homecoming against reigning CNE champion, Nichols College.
