BIDDEFORD, Maine – Michael Liquori's go-ahead goal in the 35th minute was enough for the Wentworth Institute of Technology to seal a 2-1 victory over the University of New England men's soccer team on Tuesday evening at Hazard Field.
Max Kierstead netted his first career goal in the 16th minute, responding to the Leopards' opening tally that came less than three minutes prior. Level at 1-1, Liquori scored what would go down as the game-winner with just over 10 minutes remaining in the half, and UNE (2-10-3, 0-7-1 was unable to find the equalizer in the second.
Kierstead's goal came in the moments following a corner kick, when an initial shot by
Matthew Dewhurst was deflected and found the sophomore on the far side of the field. Dewhurst earned his first assist of the season on the play.
Despite total shots being even, 9-9, the Nor'easters had a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal over the Leopards (4-9-4, 3-5-0). Four of Wentworth's saves came from Isaac Chambass, who handled goalkeeping duties during the first half.
Now with two games remaining in its 2025 campaign, UNE is set to visit Curry on Friday, Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. before returning home to host Gordon the following Tuesday (Oct. 28) for the season finale.
