WENHAM, Mass. --
Micaela Jacobs and
Isabel Culver both found the back of the net twice to account for half of the University of New England onslaught as the Nor'easters claimed an 8-0 Conference of New England (CNE) win over Gordon College at Brigham Athletic Complex on Saturday (Oct. 18).
It marked the fourth consecutive positive result in league play for UNE (10-6, 4-2 CNE), which is back with a double-digit total of overall victories for the first time since 2022.
The Nor'easters had the edge in possession from the jump and got on the board in the 4th minute with a goal by
Kate Kelso, who has scored in each of the last three conference matches. The same can be said for Jacobs, who had the cushion at 2-0 in the 17th minute; both first-half tallies were assisted by
Makena Valentine.
The flood gates opened during the final 30 minutes, with Culver (32nd),
Shelly Tremblay (40th), Jacobs (44th), Culver (52nd),
Halle Powers (53rd), and
Ava Wolverton (60th). For Culver, Powers, and Wolverton, the goals were their first of the year.
Valentine connected with Jacobs again to record a third assist, which puts Valentine in the company of 10 others with a share of the program single-game record in the category. Kelso added an assist to register a three-point afternoon, as well.
UNE held the Fighting Scots (1-16, 1-5) without even one shot attempt -- the first time the Nor'easters did that all year.
Greta Jennison picked up the goalie decision while the rest of the squad piled up 36 shots and a 20-0 spread in penalty corners.
Allyson Stauffer had 18 saves for the hosts.
The Nor'easters are back home for their final three games, beginning on Tuesday (6 p.m.) against the current No.5 program in the country, Tufts University. Then, next weekend during Homecoming, UNE will entertain the University of Hartford (0-6 CNE) to wrap up the conference slate. The regular season will be complete on October 28 versus No.4 Babson College.
