BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Two goals in less than 90 seconds gave No.5 Tufts University the start it needed to get past the University of New England, 6-0, in field hockey action Tuesday evening (Oct. 21) at Blue Bolt Field.

The last time the Jumbos had made the trip to Maine for a non-conference outing was 2023, when the Nor'easters kept the then seventh-ranked squad off of the scoreboard and won it in overtime.

Tufts -- the 2024 national runners-up -- has now captured nine straight results to improve to 12-2 overall. UNE slips to 10-7, with four of those setbacks coming against teams current among the top 11 institutions in the country.

After the goals by Hannah Biccard and Eleanor Helm to open the scoring, Hannah Murray struck with 16 seconds left in the 1st quarter to pad the lead. Sophie Brants then made it 4-0 with a tally in the 30th minute. Biccard again in the 33rd minute and a penalty stroke rounded out the offense for the visitors.

Lydia Eastburn and Isable Ginns split time in goal for the Jumbos, with Ginns recording the lone save on a tough-angle attempt in the latter stages of the 4th.

For the Nor'easters, Greta Jennison totaled 11 stops and Shelly Tremblay added a defensive save in the closing period.

Homecoming Weekend is up next, as UNE will welcome in the first-year program from the University of Hartford on Saturday (12 p.m.) to wrap the Conference of New England regular-season schedule. A positive decision against the 0-6 Hawks will net the third seed for the Nor'easters in the upcoming CNE Championship.
