BEVERLY, Mass. -- A pair of goals 105 seconds apart in the middle of the 2nd period proved to be the final margin, as No.12 Endicott College secured a 3-1 decision against the University of New England women's ice hockey team in a Conference of New England (CNE) faceoff on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 25) at Bourque Arena.
The Gulls (15-4-0, 10-2-0 CNE) are on a six-game winning streak and stand with almost double the next closest point total in the league standings. The Nor'easters will take a 7-9-1 overall ledger (5-5-1 CNE) into next weekend's series with Suffolk University, which begins on Friday in East Boston.
After an Endicott shutout on Friday, and Lily Anderson putting the hosts in front at the 9:13 mark of Saturday's 1st frame, UNE responded with just over seven minutes remaining in the stanza as
Hannah Keating tied things up. From the corner,
Danielle McCarthy fed it up the half-wall to
Hannah Humes, who sent one at the target for Keating to redirect at the last second up over EC goalie Casey Moritz. It was the third goal of the season for Keating.
It stayed level until exactly midway through the 2nd when Anderson struck again. Lilly Corso then added some insurance with 8:15 on the clock in the period, and the Gulls were able to hold it from there. The visitors had a couple of 3rd-period power plays, but were unable to chip into the deficit.
Moritz wound up with 15 saves for EC, which received two assists of offensive support from both Abbey Agrodnia and Grace Lynch.
Kirsten DiCicco registered 30 saves on the UNE end.
