BIDDEFORD, Maine --
Grace Flannery buried her second goal of the season with 3:22 left in the 2nd period to provide the difference in a 1-0 victory for the University of New England women's ice hockey team against Plymouth State University at the Harold Alfond Forum on Saturday evening (Jan. 11).
Kirsten DiCicco made 16 saves to preserve the shutout.
What proved to be the deciding play began when
Anna O'Neill collected the puck between the benches and forced it up the wall fahead of
Jamie DuPont. Just as DuPont tangled with a PSU player and fell to the ice outside the left circle, she ushered a pass to Flannery all alone in the slot, and the sophomore forward had time and space to turn and fire into the top right corner

The Nor'easters (6-7) held a 30-8 advantage in shots on goal early in the 3rd period, but needed to hang on a bit down the stretch as DiCicco made another eight stops, including a quick right-pad save approaching the middle of the frame
[Watch]. The defense in front came up large, as well, with blocks on three tries during what was nearly a four-minute Panther power play (0:22 of 5-on-3) that cleared with about four minutes remaining.
The win for DiCicco was her first in a Nor'easter sweater, despite now sporting a 1.72 goals against average and a .941 save percentage on the year.
Hannah Humes,
Amanda Forziati, and
Hannah Keating each contributed two blocked shots to support the result.
Teagan Wilson wound up with 35 saves for Plymouth State (7-5) in a tough losing effort.
UNE resumes Conference of New England (CNE) play next weekend with a series versus Nichols College. Saturday's date at the Forum (7 p.m.) will also be the 9th Annual Teddy Bear Toss Game.
