UNE cruises to 5-1 victory over Westfield State

Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England women's soccer team scored early and often, cruising to a 5-1 victory over Westfield State on Sunday at Hazard Field, thanks in part to a two-goal performance by Kylie Curtin.

The Nor'easters (2-2-0) had their first goal by just the eighth minute and led 3-0 at halftime. The Owls (0-2-2) netted their lone goal in the 52nd minute – the only blemish on UNE keeper Anna Flaherty's stat sheet, which included seven saves.

UNE's opening goal of the contest, and Curtin's first, came after the junior received a downfield pass from Brooke Pierotti and hammered it past an out-of-position Julia Robak [Watch]. In the 27th minute, Pierotti saw an open net after a pass from Tori Keyes and took advantage of the opportunity directly in front of the right post. [Watch]

In the 39th minute, Karley Belisle delivered a well-placed corner kick that Lizzie Frattaroli was able to redirect past Robak, capping off UNE's dominant first half. [Watch]

With the score at 3-1 in the 77th minute, Curtin notched her second goal of the afternoon, along with another assist for Belisle, whose centering pass found Curtin's head before clearing the outstretched arms of new Westfield State keeper Kayla Santucci. [Watch]

First-year Julia Klinkhamer's goal, the first of her career, rounded out the scoring in the 89th minute. [Watch]

Sunday's contest marked the second multi-goal game in Curtin's career, and her first since 2022. UNE's victory hiked its unbeaten streak to five matches in the series history with the Owls.

The Nor'easters are home once again on Wednesday, Sept. 11, hosting Husson for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
