BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Claudia Summers connected for the deciding tally with just over five minutes remaining to lift Wellesley College to a 2-1 field hockey decision against the University of New England on Wednesday evening (Sep. 25) at Blue Bolt Field.
The goal was part of an action-packed final period that saw all three scores occur on consecutive shots in the last 10:11 of the contest. The Blue (5-3) went ahead on a goal credited to Alex Butulis, and then Summers put home a penalty corner insert from Camille Newman 80 seconds after the Nor'easters tied it up.
UNE (3-5) found the equalizer at the 53:35 mark when
Lily Clough picked it from a defender, dribbled left into the circle, and cracked a backhand laser across her body inside the right post

The Nor'easters had a few chances to pull even again in the waning moments, but couldn't get another past the Wellesley defense. Hannah Simmonds ended up with 12 saves to backstop the result for the visitors.
The hosts closed with a 19-7 advantage in total shots.
Dawn DeWeese-Moss recorded three stops.
UNE's second four-game homestand of the year will wrap up on Saturday (1 p.m.) versus Keene State College.
