UNE battles UMaine Farmington to scoreless tie

Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Neither side was able to net the game-winner in a hard-fought 0-0 tie between the University of New England men's soccer team and UMaine Farmington on Saturday afternoon at Hazard Field.

Senior goalkeeper Ollie Hammond made four saves to earn his third career shutout. His UMaine Farmington counterpart, Jackson Leach, made four saves as well.

Despite shots on goal being even, the Nor'easters claimed a 16-8 advantage in total shots, including a 7-1 disparity during the second half. Six total cards were given, all in the second half, including two to UMaine Farmington's Ahmed Abdow.

The Beavers saw a pair of corner kick opportunities in the final two minutes of the contest, but didn't put a shot on goal. UNE's Bruno Correia accounted for the game's final shot on goal during the 79th minute. That chance was followed by what would be the Nor'easters' last chance at a corner kick.

Correia represented two of UNE's four shots on goal, with the other two coming from Haukur Karlsson and Matthew Dewhurst. Mohamed Adow recorded two shots on goal for the Beavers.

Following Saturday's tie, UNE hits the road for three straight beginning with the Conference of New England opener on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Nichols. Kickoff is set for noon.
