BEVERLY, Mass. -- Jaylin Couto and Kristen Beebe pitched 12 shutout frames to lead Endicott College to a pair of Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) softball wins, both 8-0 (6 innings), against the University of New England at the EC Softball Complex on Saturday afternoon (Apr. 20).

Couto and Beebe combined for 17 strikeouts for the Gulls, who improve to 18-7 overall and 9-1 in conference outings. The Nor'easters (8-20) slip back to 4-6 in the CCC, heading into Sunday's home doubleheader versus Wentworth Institute of Technology.

In GAME 1, Couto was working on a perfect game with two outs in the top of the 5th when Emma Koenig doubled off the left-center fence. UNE's only other hit followed, from Hannah Lappin, but the visitors could not put a dent in the seven-run deficit.

Endicott notched all seven runs to that point in the bottom of the 1st inning, behind four hits, two walks, and two hit batters. Mia Mitchell, Ella Tower, Kylyn McLaren, and Katie Watts came through with hits to supply the scoring.

Aided by a pair of double plays involving Lappin, Emma Michaud, and Olivia Howe, Liv Arvidson scattered four hits over 4.1 innings of scoreless relief for the Nor'easters until the first pitch of the EC 6th, which Dani Lear sent over the fence to seal the result.

Mitchell and Lear topped the Gulls with two hits apiece. Couto finished with nine strikeouts.

Endicott got off to a good start GAME 2, as well, scoring three times in the 1st inning. After a two-run shot by Caitlyn Romero, Christina Nowicki had an RBI-double to add one unearned run for a 3-0 cushion.

Mitchell singled in one run in the 3rd, Lear plated two with a double in the 5th, and Hadley Marchand doubled home Chloe Shapleigh to cap things in the last half of the 6th. Mitchell, Nowicki, and Elyse Saccoccio each recorded a pair of hits for the offense.

Beebe allowed three hits and issued two walks, while fanning eight.

Two of those UNE singles came back-to-back with two away in the 5th, starting with Becca Dumont for the second time, and then Michaud. In the circle, Mo Kinsella struck out four across five innings.
