BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of Hartford Hawks withstood a fourth-quarter charge by the University of New England to earn a 14-10 women's lacrosse victory Saturday afternoon (April 13) on Senior Day at Blue Bolt Field.
The victory slid the Hawks over the .500 mark for the season at 6-5, while the Nor'easters fell back to 5-8. The contest marked the final regular-season home game for Class of 2024 members

Trailing 12-6 after three quarters, the Nor'easters cut their deficit to three (13-10) but eventually ran out of time to complete the comeback. Lenaijah Ferguson scored with 1:21 to seal the victory.
Ferguson and Madison Olmstead each scored four goals to lead all players. Olmstead also added a pair of assists to finish with six points. Laurel McIntosh and Meghan Smith chipped in with a pair of markers apiece.Â
For UNE,
Sydney Balotin scored three times, while
Molly Henderson and
Morgan White each found the cage on two occasions.Â
With the score tied 1-1 in the early stages of the contest, the Hawks closed the opening quarter with four goals over the final 5:16 to take a 5-1 advantage in the first break. Smith converted a free-position attempt 1:20 into the second before UNE reeled off four consecutive goals to close within one (6-5) at intermission. Hartford would open the second half with three straight goals to seize momentum once again.
The stat sheet was very even for the two teams, with each team putting 21 shots on goal. UNE held a slight margin in ground balls (14-12) and draw controls (16-11). UNE's Balotin and Hartford's Smith each collected six draws. Winning goalkeeper Hanna Ramsey came up with 10 saves, while
Jenna Trafford had seven for the Nor'easters.
UNE is off until next Saturday's (April 20) road contest at Western New England University. Start time is slated for 1 p.m.
