BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Goalkeeper Christopher Ledwick stopped 13 of 14 shots on goal as the University of Hartford men's lacrosse team rode an impressive defensive performance to an 8-1 win over the University of New England Saturday afternoon (April 13) on Senior Day at Blue Bolt Field.

The triumph halted a brief two-game losing skid for the Hawks, who improved to 4-6 on the season. UNE now stands at 3-12 with a pair of regular-season games remaining.

Jake Ojert and Aidan Ezra scored two goals apiece to lead the Hawks' attack. John Furino, Aidan Kemp, Ethan Hunt and Ryan Varano each converted once to round out Hartford's scoring.

Shea Fogarty, assisted by Joe O'Keefe, notched his 23rd goal of the season to account for UNE's offensive output.

The stingy Hawks' defense kept the Nor'easters off the scoreboard until Fogarty broke through with 4:51 remaining in the contest. Hartford scored three goals in each of the first two quarters to build a 6-0 halftime advantage.

The Hawks won the ground ball battle (34-24) and was successful on 20 of 22 clear attempts. Ojert and Nicholas Forgione each collected a game-high six ground balls. Forgione also added a pair of caused turnovers.

Chris Gottlieb paced the Nor'easters with three ground balls, while goalkeeper Evan Hazard matched his career high with 18 saves.

UNE will return to action next Saturday (April 20) with a 4 p.m. contest at Western New England University.
