Hamline edges UNE, 5-3

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Josephine Cariveau and Savannah Johnson each had two hits and two runs batted in to help Hamline University clip the University of New England, 5-3, in softball action Tuesday (Mar. 12) at The Spring Games.

The Pipers (5-2) scored three runs with two outs in the top of the 3rd inning -- two of which were aided by an error. The Nor'easters (1-4) got one right back in the bottom of the frame on a two-out RBI-double by Grace Tutt.

After Hamline added one in the 5th, more two-out scoring came in the 7th for both sides. A double by Johnson made it 5-1, only to see Tutt come through with a two-run single to bring the potential tying run to the plate in UNE's last chance.

Tutt first of three hits in the contest marked 100 in the career of the graduate student, the 23rd player in recent program history to reach such a total. Hannah Irons tacked on a couple of hits for the Nor'easters, who led 9-8 in the category. Emma Michaud scored twice.
