Ohio Northern rallies past Nor'easters, 15-10

MESA, Ariz. -- Riley Kocik and Emma Hoersten each scored four times over the final 36 minutes to lead Ohio Northern University back from a five-goal deficit to pick up a 15-10 women's lacrosse result versus the University of New England in a neutral-site match on Monday night (Mar. 11).

Kocik finished with six goals for the Polar Bears (5-2), who, after Hoersten, received three more from Elena Martin. Keaghan Burden dished out five assists.

For the Nor'easters (0-5), Morgan White notched three goals and 11 draw controls. Sydney Balotin contributed two goals, two assists, four draws, and three caused turnovers. Abby McHallam found the back of the cage twice. Jenna Trafford made six saves.

White's second of the contest gave UNE a 5-1 lead with 5:51 to go in the 1st quarter, and the Nor'easters netted the first two of the 2nd to assume a 7-2 advantage. When Barrie Guertin scored with 10:28 remaining before halftime, it was 8-3.

However, the next six goals went for ONU to edge in front, 9-8, with 10:06 on the clock in the 3rd. McHallam tied it back up a few minutes later, but Hoersten and Martin put the Polar Bears up, 11-9, entering the 4th. White struck for UNE just 14 seconds into the final frame, only to see Kocik tack on three more to pad the cushion to 14-10 with under 10 minutes to play.

The Nor'easters are back in action Tuesday (4 p.m. EST) against the University of Northwestern (Minn.).
