BEVERLY, Mass. -- Rivers Morris scored just 46 seconds into overtime to provide the 11th-ranked Endicott College Gulls with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the University of New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference women's ice hockey game Friday night (Feb. 9) at Raymond J. Bourque Arena.
Winners of eight consecutive contests, the Gulls improved to 16-4-2 and sit atop the conference standings with a 13-2-0 ledger. UNE dropped to 8-11-3 overall, 7-5-3 in CCC play.
After a scoreless opening period, the Nor'easters got on the scoreboard with 6:03 elapsed in the middle frame on a wrist shot by
Amanda Forziati from the low slot.
Lainie Lemieux and
Anna O'Neill were credited with assists on the scoring play.
Endicott drew even seven minutes later when Morris set up Teaghan Hall for her 10th tally of the season. The 1-1 score carried from that point until the end of regulation.
Winning goaltender Casey Moritz registered 21 saves for the Gulls to earn the victory between the pipes.
Delanie Corcoran (34 saves) had a strong evening in goal for UNE, which hosts Nichols College tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
