Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- A 2nd-period goal by Amanda Forziati and 27 saves out of Delanie Corcoran proved to be the difference as the University of New England secured a 3-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's ice hockey victory over Nichols College at the Harold Alfond Forum on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 10).

It was the second straight day with a goal for Forziati, who notched number five of her rookie campaign at 6:47 of the middle frame. The Bison were unable to clear the zone and the puck settled with Anna O'Neill, who found Forziati alone on the right edge of the slot for a five-hole finish [Watch]. Lainie Lemieux was also credited with an assist on the play.

That was enough for Corcoran, who made 13 of her stops in the opening stanza as the Nor'easters (9-11-3, 8-5-3 CCC) were out-shot by a couple. The shutout was the fourth of the year for the senior.

All nine of UNE's wins on the season have come when allowing one goal or less, including each of the three meetings with Nichols (7-16-0, 1-15-0).

Mia LaPlante and Keely Kasputis added empty-net scores for the hosts in the waning moments. Eliana Kane picked up the assist on LaPlante's from the right wall in the neutral zone with 1:56 to go [Watch]. Hannah Humes and Danielle McCarthy set up Kasputis racing through the middle, splitting the last two defenders to tap another one in with 34 seconds remaining [Watch].

Humes contributed 10 blocked shots to help the Nor'easters limit the chances on Corcoran.

AnaMary Pulgar totaled 30 saves for the Bison.

UNE (28.5 points) is positioned solidly in 3rd place in the standings entering the final weekend of the regular season, with contests at Salve Regina University (22.5, 4th) on Friday and back home against Western New England University (34.0, 2nd) on Saturday.
