Quick start key for Wheaton in 11-5 win

NORTON, Mass. -- The host Wheaton College Lyons outscored the University of New England 6-1 in the opening quarter on their way to an 11-5 season-opening victory over the University of New England in non-conference men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon (Feb. 17) at Nordin Field.

Charlie Goodrich paced a balanced Wheaton scoring attack with three goals. Charlie Racine, Lucas Mehlhorn and Jack Board each contributed a pair. 

Sam McGregor tallied a pair of markers to lead the way for UNE, while Shea Fogarty, Collin Jackson and Andrew Lawrence had one apiece.

The Lyons had the better part of the stat sheet on the afternoon, leading the Nor'easters in shots (33-25), ground balls (19-12) and going 13-for-14 on clear attempts. Winning goalkeeper Connor Alstrom made 12 saves.

Evan Hazard finished with 12 stops for UNE, which will open its home slate Wednesday (Feb. 21) versus St. Joseph's College. Opening faceoff at Blue Bolt Field is scheduled for 4 p.m.
