BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Sean Seymour poured in a game-high 30 points to lead Salve Regina University to a 95-88 win over the University of New England in the consolation game of the 2024 Jim Beaudry Classic played Sunday afternoon (Nov. 17) at the Harold Alfond Forum.
Seymour converted 10 of 15 field goal attempts, including 3-for-4 efficiency from beyond the arc. He added six rebounds and a pair of steals for the Seahawks (2-2) on his way to being named to the all-tournament team. Declan Walmsley was also 3-for-4 from distance and chipped in 23 points, while Brad Fowler was dominant inside, posting a double-double (16 points, 13 rebounds) and blocking four shots.
For UNE (1-3),
Adam Lux nailed five treys on his way to a team-high 25 points. All-tourney selection
Adrian Torres supported with 19 points (7 of 10 from the floor), four steals and four assists, and
Jaelen Jackson played a strong all-around game, registering a career-best 19 points to go with three steals and three assists.
Jayden Thornton also hit double digits in the scoring column with 12.
The visiting Seahawks got off to quick start, opening up a 24-9 advantage just 8:51 into the contest. UNE fought back and closed the deficit to three (28-25) with 6:49 remaining in the half before Salve closed on a 22-12 run to take a 50-37 lead into the locker room.
The Seahawks led the entire way after the break, with UNE getting as close as four (90-86) with under a minute to play. Salve Regina made 5 of 6 from the free throw line over the final 36 seconds to ice the win.
In the afternoon's championship tilt, Mitchell College earned the title with an 82-75 victory over Maine Maritime Academy. Mitchell's Jaylyn Clardy was named Most Outstanding Player of the weekend, and teammate Eddie Volkerts joined the ranks of the all-tournament team; Jack Banks and Curt Heinz represented MMA in that regard. UNE is idle until next Saturday (Nov. 23) when the Nor'easters will look to snap a three-game losing streak when they host New England College for a non-conference game starting at 1 p.m.
