UNE comes away victorious in 4th Annual Lobster Trap Game

Statistics

BANGOR, Maine -- An efficient performance from quarterback Jarrett Henault coupled with a stout defensive effort by the University of New England provided the Nor'easters with a 25-14 road victory over Conference of New England (CNE) rival Husson University in the 4th Annual Lobster Trap Game played Saturday afternoon (Nov. 16) at the Winkin Sports Complex.

The win marks the first for the Nor'easters in the four-year series with their in-state rival (2nd overall). UNE concludes the regular season at 4-6 (2-3 CNE), while the Eagles fell for the second straight outing to drop to 6-4 (3-2 CNE).

The host Eagles got on the scoreboard on the opening possession when Max Clark found Dom Wilson for a 15-yard score to cap an 8-play, 67-yard drive.

UNE responded right away, however, taking its initial possession to the house in just five plays. Henault hooked up with Jakob Rivers for a 14-yard touchdown pass, and Jack Niland tacked on the extra point to tie the score, 7-7.

Each offense would have its difficulties moving the ball consistently the remainder of the first half. While the Nor'easters were able to hold Husson scoreless after its opening possession, UNE pushed its lead to 13-7 on a pair of second-quarter field goals by Niland. The first came with two minutes elapsed, and the second was converted with 2:23 remaining before halftime.

Husson took back the lead (14-13) with the lone score of the third quarter on a two-yard touchdown run by Lavar Hunter, followed by the extra point from Cason Markevich.

The Nor'easters would go ahead to stay just 1:22 into the final frame when Damien Jones punched it in from one yard out for his seventh rushing touchdown of the season. UNE failed on the two-point conversion attempt but still led 19-14.

While their defense continued to stall the Eagles' offensive attack, the Nor'easters put the game away just before the two-minute warning when Chris Lang scampered into the end zone from 14 yards.

UNE dominated in yards-from-scrimmage, nearly doubling-up Husson in total yards (335-171).

Henault completed 10 of 11 passing attempts for 124 yards and one touchdown. Lang was 11-for-16 through the air and accounted for a team-high 70 yards on the ground. Jones played a huge role in the win, racking up 223 all-purpose yards (109 return, 68 receiving, 46 rushing). Jones' 68 receiving yards came on a game-high eight receptions.

Tyron Gomes spearheaded the defensive effort with 10 tackles, while Nate Reid had six. Jayden Prophete and Bobby Cielakie each had an interception for the Nor'easters.
