BIDDEFORD, Maine -- A pair of goals in the latter portion of the 1st half were enough for Western New England University to secure a 2-0 Conference of New England (CNE) result against the University of New England on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 5) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

The Golden Bears (4-6-3, 1-1-1 CNE) drew at penalty kick in the 31st minute and Roger Leland went high-center for the opening score. Then in the 43rd minute, a through ball from Shay O'Neill found Aiden Casinghino in stride, and a little chip over the on-rushing goalie and inside the near post doubled the margin.

The hosts had more chances in the 2nd period but could not solve the WNEU defense. Final totals on shots were 18-6 and 9-3 on-target.

Braylon Casinghino posted three stops for the visitors, while his counterpart from UNE, Sean McCarthy, ended with six saves.

UNE (4-5-2, 1-2-0 CNE) will play its final non-league game on Tuesday at Husson University.
