WENHAM, Mass. –
Kylie Curtin scored twice as the University of New England women's soccer team battled Gordon, which remains unbeaten in conference play, to a 3-3 tie on the road during Saturday's back-and-forth affair.
The Fighting Scots (8-3-5, 5-0-3 CNE) grabbed an early 2-0 lead with a pair of goals scored by Ava Forbes-Smith. UNE (12-5-1, 5-2-1 CNE) battled back with consecutive tallies of its own, with the first coming from Curtin in the 22nd minute and the second courtesy of
Tori Keyes in the 27th minute. Keyes, now with a goal in each of the Nor'easters' last three games, has 17 on the season.
After entering the second half tied at 2-2, UNE took the lead in the 67th minute when Curtin netted her second goal of the game. The junior, having scored her fourth and fifth goals of the season on Saturday, also recorded her second two-goal game of the season.
Gordon's Amy Larue netted the equalizer in the 77th minute, and goalkeeper Emily Bengston made two saves over the game's final three minutes to help the Fighting Scots salvage the 3-3 tie.
Shots on goal were even at 7-7 while UNE's first-year goalkeeper
Haley Coombs made her second career start and tallied four saves.
Lizzie Frattaroli earned her eighth assist of the season with a downfield pass to Curtin to help facilitate the Nor'easters first goal.
Brooke Pierotti now has an assist after sending a well-placed ball that connected with Keyes, who was running to the right post and soon tied the game at 2-2.
UNE returns home on Tuesday, Oct. 29 for the regular season finale. With plenty of playoff seeding implications at play, the Nor'easters will square off with Endicott at 4 p.m.
