BOSTON -- After yielding a 13-2 stretch to see things knotted up midway through the 2nd half, Suffolk University turned in a 13-2 run of its own down the stretch to come away with an 84-74 decision against the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action Thursday night (Jan. 4) at Smith Court.

The Rams (6-5, 3-2 CCC) received 20 points and eight rebounds out of Keenan Robertson, and a well-rounded 19 points, six boards, six assists, and six steals from Danny Yardemian. Cole LaVangie and Evan Cook added 12 points apiece.

Adam Lux paced the Nor'easters (5-7, 0-4) with 15 points and nine caroms. Adrian Torres recorded 13 points, while Jayden Thornton and Jack Pyzynski each had 12 points. Torres notched 11 of his points during the 1st period, and all of Pyzynski's came in the 2nd.

With UNE holding a 12-point edge from downtown (30-18) and the hosts finishing up 14 at the free throw line (22-8), Suffolk's 44-34 points in the paint advantage basically made up the difference scoring inside the arc. The Rams shot 50 percent from the floor in the contest (28-for-56), just ahead of the 47.5 percent by the Nor'easters.

Despite a 10-2 start over the first 2:42 of the match for Suffolk, a three-pointer by Connor Curcio had the visitors on top at 16-15. Play shifted back and forth until the last five points gave the Rams a 43-38 edge at the break.

The rest of Curcio's eight points helped the UNE rally to level the score at 53-all with just under 10 minutes remaining. It was 61-60 with 6:16 to go before six from Yardemian sparked the deciding spurt for the home squad, leaving the margin at 74-62 with 2:17 on the clock. Yardemian had 14 points following halftime.

The Nor'easters are back on the court Saturday (3 p.m.) when Nichols College comes to Biddeford.
