BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England struck for all of its goals in the final 21 minutes during a 3-0 field hockey victory over Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Thursday afternoon (Sep. 7) at Blue Bolt Field.

With the result, the Nor'easters pick up their first win of the young season after falling to a pair of nationally-ranked opponents (1-2), while the Engineers drop to 0-3.

After just three combined shots-on-goal between the teams through the initial 30 minutes, UNE turned up the pressure in the 3rd period with four attempts on-target and five penalty corners. A set play in the 39th minute proved to be deciding tally, as Lily Clough received the insert from Gianna Korisianos and blasted a second touch from the top of the arc into the right side of the cage. The momentum carried into the 4th, and Madi Robito pounced on the loose ball in the middle before slotting a shot into the left side of the net less than two minutes into the frame (47th) [Watch]. Robito then got an assist in the 58th minute, getting the ball behind the keeper and defense for Isabel Culver to usher across the line. [Watch]

Dawn DeWeese-Moss made her only save in the second half just 16 seconds later to maintain the shutout bid [Watch], and finished with three stops. WPI had two more corners in the waning moments, producing one shot attempt, but the Nor'easter defense blocked it to bring their total to five shots prevented from reaching DeWeese-Moss.

Ella Moreau denied five tries in goal for the Engineers.

UNE is back in action Sunday with a visit to national No.1 Middlebury College.
