WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Sara Maniscalco scored from a scramble in front in the latter stages of the 3rd quarter to give Wellesley College enough for a 2-1 field hockey decision versus the University of New England on Wednesday evening (Sept. 27) at Butler Stadium.
After a penalty corner insert bounced away, Maniscalco collected the ball in the middle and slotted a shot that UNE goalie
Dawn DeWeese-Moss put pads onto but could not prevent it from rolling across the line in the 42nd minute.
The Nor'easters (3-7) had the majority of chances the rest of the way, but were unable to find the equalizer. The win gets the Blue to 6-3 overall on the season.
A defensive save from
Lauren Green kept things scoreless in the 1st period, before the visitors put one on the board in the 17th minute.
Lily Clough drilled a corner feed from
Morgan Mast off the inside of the right post for her team-leading fourth goal of the year.
That 1-0 margin only lasted until the 21st minute, though, when Maniscalco finished on the right side of the arc with an assist from Camille Newman.
UNE directed most of its shots on-target, forcing Wellesley netminder Kyra Deehr-Lewis into six saves to backstop the result for the hosts.
For the Nor'easters, who are off until next Tuesday when No.14 Bates College comes to town, DeWeese-Moss made one save.
