GORHAM, Maine -- The University of New England women's volleyball team picked up right where it left off during last Saturday's start to a match against the University of Southern Maine, wrapping up a 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-16, 25-9) on Thursday night (Sep. 21) at Hill Gymnasium. The contest was halted five days earlier, late in the 2nd set, when the facility experienced a power outage from storm-related winds.
With the result, the Nor'easters carry a 5-2 overall record into the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener versus Western New England University on Saturday evening (5 p.m.), which will cap off Homecoming Weekend in Biddeford.
It marked UNE's second straight-set win this season over the Huskies, who drop to 3-6.
Ellijah Hanley put up a season-best 17 points to lead the winners, behind 13 kills (.409 attacking), three service aces, and two block assists. As a squad, the Nor'easters recorded a season-high 54.0 points.
Viktoria Pavlyuk added eight kills, and
Hannah Nowell contributed five more against no errors (.417 clip).
Kassidy Bradshaw framed 26 assists for the offense.
Kailyn Reilly had a hand in six blocks for UNE, which factored in limiting USM to a -.062 hitting percentage. The rest of the defense left very few openings for the hosts, as
Addie Miller,
Morgan Lynch, and Bradshaw went for 13, nine, and eight digs, respectively. Miller also tossed in three points on aces.
Brianna Delloiacono posted seven kills to pace the Huskies, who got 14 assists from Cassidy Weiher. Sierra Castonguay had 11 digs.
