BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Makena Valentine blasted home a penalty corner insert from Gianna Korisianos just 63 seconds into overtime to lift the University of New England to a 3-2 field hockey victory against Colby College on Wednesday evening (Sep. 13) at Blue Bolt Field.

The Nor'easters (2-3) had trailed most of the night, twice pulling themselves out of one-goal deficits down the stretch. UNE made the first and only play of overtime count, though, as Korisianos delivered it right to Valentine at the top of the arc for a drive inside the left post. [Watch]

The duo connected for the exact same result to even the score at 1-1 with less than three minutes to go in the 3rd quarter [Watch]. The two goals by Valentine were the first of her young career (sophomore).

After Catherine McNulty found a bouncing ball at the right post and knocked it in to push the Mules back in front (2-1) with 13 minutes remaining, another corner pass from Korisianos led to UNE's equalizer (2-2) with 6:06 on the clock. This time it was Lily Clough who stepped into a big swing from the top, and the shot grazed a defender's stick and glanced off the inside of the right post before crossing the line [Watch].

The home side found the back of the net on its last three attempts of the contest. The three helpers from Korisianos joins nine others with a share of the UNE single-game record, which was last achieved in 2019.

The Nor'easters surged out of the gate with four shots-on-goal and four corners in less than 10 minutes, but Colby's initial try in the latter stages of the 1st period put the first mark on the board. Lily Harrington, in the middle-right of the offensive zone, converted a feed off the end line from Erin Quirk by slotting a shot to the far post.

A couple of defensive saves by UNE's Lauren Green helped maintain the 1-0 margin deep into the 3rd frame. Dawn DeWeese-Moss came up with two saves in the 4th -- as the visitors registered a 7-1 advantage in total shots -- and finished off the win with six stops.

The result ends a four-game streak for the Mules in the all-time series.

For the match, Colby led 17-9 in shots (10-7 on goal) and wound up with a 9-8 edge in corners. Mules goalie Emily Loeb recorded all four of her saves in the opening stanza.

The Nor'easters will now prepare for a busy weekend on the road, visiting Keene State College on Saturday and then No.12 Trinity College on Sunday.
