Owls squeak past UNE, 1-0

Statistics

KEENE, N.H. -- A penalty stroke conversion by Molly Murray in the final seconds of the first half proved to be the difference as Keene State College clipped the University of New England, 1-0, in field hockey action Saturday afternoon (Sep. 16) at the Owl Athletic Complex.

The hosts had a flurry of pressure -- really for the only time in the contest -- at the tail end of the 2nd quarter. After three saves in short order by Dawn DeWeese-Moss, the Owls (5-2) were awarded their fourth penalty corner of the period, and moments later (29:41), the whistle blew for the stroke opportunity. Murray directed the attempt into the lower left corner under DeWeese-Moss.

The Nor'easters had the run of play following halftime, posting a 10-3 advantage in shots, but could not solve the KSC defense and Clara Gorman, who made four of her five saves during the last 30 minutes.

DeWeese-Moss also finished with five stops in the match for the visitors.

UNE (2-4) continues its road trip to Trinity College (Conn.) on Sunday.
