Nor'easters coast past Husson in straight sets

Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Kailyn Reilly knocked down 11 kills on 14 attempts to lead the University of New England women's volleyball team in a 3-0 triumph (25-19, 25-15, 25-17) over Husson University on Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum on Monday evening (Sep. 11).

The Nor'easters move to 4-2 overall on the year, while the Eagle drop to 0-5.

Reilly also had two solo blocks and a pair of assisted ones to finish with 14 points, and her .786 hitting percentage was a big part of UNE's season-best .382 clip as a squad.

Ellijah Hanley was highly efficient in her own right, clubbing 10 kills against just one miscue on the way to a .474 attack rate. Kassidy Bradshaw helped the offense with 27 assists, while Reese LeMay and Addie Miller guided a balanced defensive effort with 10 and eight digs, respectively.

For Husson, Janna Preskorn totaled nine kills, and Beatrice Tursi had nine digs. Alyvia McIntyre put up 20 assists and recorded four service aces.

One of those aces from McIntyre gave the visitors a 12-9 edge in the 1st frame, but back-to-back ball handling errors flipped the advantage for good at 16-15. A Reilly winner and ace by Kendall Gallaugher capped the opening stanza for the Nor'easters.

UNE never trailed in the 2nd, racing out to a 9-1 cushion. The 3rd was closer early on, but the hosts scored seven unanswered from 12-9 to gain full control of the set.

On Saturday, the Nor'easters will look for another victory against the University of Southern Maine, after sweeping the Huskies in the season opener on a neutral court.
