BIDDEFORD, Maine – Behind a six-goal performance from
Morgan White the University of New England women's lacrosse team picked up a 19-2 victory over Gordon College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup at Blue Bolt Field on Tuesday.
The Nor'easters (10-5, 4-3 CCC) scored the first six goals of the game, three from White to lead 6-0 with 2:30 to play in the first quarter. Mikayla Lecci put the Fighting Scots on the board with 1:32 to play before
Meagan Donovan added her first of two goals off an assist from
Emily Jacobs in the final minute to put UNE ahead 7-1 after one.
White and
Micaela Jacobs each scored twice in the second quarter as the Nor'easters continued to pile it on and led 13-1 at the half. The UNE lead ballooned to 16-1 after a goal by
Kimmy Staniar with 2:57 to play in the third quarter. Kaitlyn Mini ended the run with a point for the Fighting Scots early in the fourth quarter.
Abby McHallam scored three times over the final 8:19 of the game for UNE.
Shots favored UNE 38-9 on the day. The Nor'easters also forced the Fighting Scots into 29 turnovers to just 15 for the hosts.
Maria Turriza stopped five shots in the victory. Sophea Zaskoda made the start in goal for Gordon and made five saves.
Elizabeth Guertin had four caused turnovers and three ground balls for UNE.
The Nor'easters wrap the regular season on the road at Salve Regina on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
