Roger Williams takes down UNE

BRISTOL, R.I. – Roger Williams University earned a 26-7 victory over the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday.
 
Mandy Beck led the way for the Hawks (8-6, 5-1 CCC) with eight goals and an assist. Lily Cunningham added five goals and a helper. UNE (9-5, 3-3 CCC) was led by four goals from Morgan White.
 
Sydney Balotin began a high-scoring first quarter with an unassisted goal for the Nor'easters. The Hawks answered with four goals over a two-minute period to pull ahead 4-1 by the 9:17 mark of the quarter. Kelsey Hartigan connected with Abby McHallam for a goal to stop the run.
 
Ryleigh Cavanaugh started another run for the Hawks as they went ahead 9-2. White closed out the scoring in the quarter with her first goal of the game as UNE trailed 9-3 after one.
 
Beck and Brooke McErlain each had two goals for Roger Williams in the second quarter as it built the lead up to 15-4 by the half. White added a tally for UNE in the period.
 
The Nor'easters scored three of the first four goals of the second half. White scored the first goal of the period. Karli Chapin responded for the hosts just over a minute later. White and Barrie Guertin put in back-to-back scores for UNE as it cut the deficit to 16-7 with 6:21 to play in the third. Cunningham scored two of the Hawks' final three goals of the third to make it 19-7 after 45 minutes of play.
 
Beck scored five goals and had an assist in the fourth quarter.
 
Caroline Roach earned the victory in net with six saves. Maria Turriza had eight stops in the loss for UNE.
 
The Nor'easters play their final regular season home game on Tuesday evening against Gordon at 7 p.m.
