Gulls upend Nor’easters, 18-7

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott College defeated the University of New England, 18-7, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's lacrosse matchup on Wednesday evening.
 
The Gulls took a 4-0 lead in the first quarter after two goals each by Alex Palermo and Katy Garvin. Morgan White scored two of the first three goals of the second quarter for the Nor'easters as they cut the deficit to 5-2 at the 12:52 mark of the period.
 
Clare Wendell and Carly Pierce answered with quick goals for Endicott as the hosts built the lead back to 7-2. White added her third of the quarter with 7:23 to play until the half.  The Gulls put in the final four goals of the first 30 minutes to extend their advantage to 11-3 at halftime.
 
Kelsey Hartigan and Sydney Balotin scored in the third as UNE trailed 15-5 through three. Endicott extended its lead to 13 before Balotin and Halle Huizenga scored free-position goals for the Nor'easters to wrap the scoring.
 
Lydia Akins had nine stops for Endicott. Maria Turriza made 12 saves in the loss for UNE.
 
The Nor'easters return to the field at Roger Williams on Saturday at 12 p.m.
